Hollywood actor Johnny Depp is living a quiet life in England following his much-publicized divorce and his televised defamation lawsuit against his former wife Amber Heard. Depp won the case against Heard, who had implied he was a predator in a 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post.
The actor has since retreated to his 850-acre compound in Somerset, England, that he purchased in 2014. The sprawling estate is a three-and-a-half-hour drive from London and offers privacy through walled gardens.
According to Square Yards,
“The 150-year-old mansion is made on 850 acres of land. Although this Johnny Depp house was worth $2.5million when purchased, the actor had to spend an extra $5 million on its renovation. The Somerset Mansion consists of 12-bedrooms along with 8-bathrooms.”
In an exclusive interview with Somerset Life magazine, Depp said that he owns property in areas all over the world. “I have various houses in various places, and they all mean something special to me,” he said. “I don’t have them just to say I own them, I have them for use and because they are a bit special.”
The actor noted that he is able to enjoy relative quiet in his English estate, as his neighbors have been respectful of his privacy. “British people are cool and will greet you as if you are a neighbor without going over the top,” he said. “I don’t mind if people want an autograph or a brief chat but not when I am having some private time with my family.”
Depp added that he enjoys anonymity in England, as he is able to go into stores without being overwhelmed by fans wanting selfies. “That’s one of the great things about Britain, and especially Somerset,” he said. “I can just be me — and that’s nice.”
Depp, who has been in the public eye for decades, described himself as “shy.” The actor was embroiled in a lengthy civil trial in 2022, in which each accused the other of engaging in abuse. In Depp’s case, Heard alleged he physically abused her and also used drugs. Depp alleged Heard was prone to bouts of rage and once severed his finger with a bottle of liquor while the couple was in Australia.
Now, Depp appears to have retreated to his estate in England, where he can enjoy a quiet life away from the limelight.
