Pop icon Madonna has been hospitalized in New York City after being found unresponsive, according to an exclusive report by Page Six. The 64-year-old singer was discovered at a residence on Saturday and was immediately admitted to the ICU, where she was intubated overnight. Madonna’s longtime manager, Guy Oseary, took to Instagram on Wednesday to reveal that his client had developed a serious bacterial infection, which resulted in her stay in the ICU for several days.
Currently, the specific type of bacterial infection Madonna has contracted remains unclear. However, it is worth noting that serious bacterial infections contribute to over 23,000 deaths annually in the United States, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
After her time in the intensive care unit, Madonna has now been moved to a regular ward in the undisclosed hospital, where she is currently recovering. Her eldest daughter, Lordes Leon, 26, has reportedly been by her mother’s side throughout the entire ordeal, offering support and care.
In light of Madonna’s health crisis, her highly-anticipated “Celebration” tour, set to kick off in less than three weeks, has been postponed. The tour was slated to include 53 shows across North America and Europe, with the first performance scheduled for July 15 in Vancouver. In an Instagram post, Oseary explained that all commitments, including the tour, will be paused until further notice. Additional details regarding a new start date for the tour and rescheduled shows will be shared with fans as soon as they are available.
Madonna, known for her chart-topping hits from her 1983 self-titled debut album to her most recent record, 2019’s “Madame X,” had promised to perform a collection of her greatest hits during the tour.
Just three days prior to her hospitalization, Madonna took to social media to celebrate her twin daughters’ graduation from elementary school. The proud mother shared a photo of 10-year-olds Stelle and Estere, congratulating them on their achievement.
Madonna’s current relationship status remains unclear. In May, sources revealed that she was growing close to 29-year-old singer Maluma during rehearsals for her tour.
