Will Smith Finally Addresses The ‘Slap Heard Around The World’ & People Are Rolling Their Eyes

Will Smith has addressed his controversial Oscar’s slap across Chris Rock’s face. Smith posted an almost six-minute long video on YouTube where he discusses the slap and why he didn’t apologize when he accepted his Oscar.

Will Smith stated, “I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is ready he will reach out.”

Smith then addressed Rock directly saying, “So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

Is it too little too late?  Smith stated that he did not apologize during his acceptance speech during the 2022 Oscars because at that moment he was “fogged out” and “it’s all fuzzy.”

Smith also apologized to Rock’s mother and family after an interview with Rock’s mother was seen. Smith said he didn’t realize at the time how many people got hurt at that moment.

Smith stated:

“There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment,” he said. “There’s no part of me that thinks that’s the optimal way to handle a feeling of disrespect or insults.”

“I hate when I let people down so it hurts me psychologically and emotionally that I didn’t live up to people’s image and impression of me,” he said.
