Actor Richard Gere was recently hospitalized after falling ill during a family vacation in Mexico. On Feb. 19, Gere’s wife Alejandra Silva provided an update on how the Pretty Woman star was doing, revealing that he is “recovering” and feeling “much better” after being diagnosed with pneumonia.
Gere, 73, had been vacationing with Silva and their children to celebrate her 40th birthday. Silva had noted two days prior that the whole family had been feeling under the weather for the past several weeks. The actor had developed a bad cough before traveling that worsened while on vacation, leading to the hospital visit.
Gere and Silva married in 2018 and have since welcomed two sons together. Gere also has a 23-year-old son, Homer James Jigme Gere, with ex-wife Carey Lowell, while Silva has a third son named Albert from a previous relationship.
The news of Gere being hospitalized with pneumonia has caused many fans to take to social media to express their good wishes. On Instagram, Silva thanked fans for their concern saying, “I woke up this morning and I saw the news and all your kind and worry messages, he is recovering ❤️🩹 he is felling [sic] much better today! The worst has already pass! [sic] Thank you all for you sweet messages we really appreciate them! ♥️♥️ #thankyou” she captioned the social media post, which was featured alongside a photo of the couple walking hand-in-hand with their young son.

In a second message, Silva said, “Hi everyone, a little update, Richard is feeling much better, we are all feeling much better, “almost” back to normal.. we want to thank doctor Rios’s and the hospital la Joya. We came to Mexico to continue with our conservation project south of Puerto Vallarta, we all came not feeling well from NY, our youngest James and Richard got Pneumonia and Alexander and I sinusitis and ear infections, now we are all well and almost fully recovered. Thank you all for your messages! Richard wanted me to post this second photo to show you that he is feeling much better 🙃”
