In an astounding case that could be straight out of a horror movie, an 82-year-old woman from Long Island, New York, was pronounced dead, only to be discovered breathing shortly after being moved to a funeral home.
The 82-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was declared dead at 11:15 a.m. at the Water’s Edge Rehab and Nursing Center in Port Jefferson. She was then transported to the O.B. Davis Funeral Home in Miller Place. It was there at 2 p.m. that staff made the shocking discovery that the elderly woman was still breathing.
The woman was quickly transported to a local hospital. However, the current condition of the woman is unknown. The case has been referred to the New York State Attorney’s Office.

The Long Island woman’s case is similar to that of a 66-year-old woman in Iowa last week. In that case, the patient was declared dead and sent to a nursing home, only to be found gasping for air in a body bag. The woman was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed to be breathing but unresponsive. She was returned to hospice and died two days later, surrounded by family members.

It is unclear at this time how the Long Island woman survived her apparent death or if her being declared dead was a medical error. It may take some time for the investigation to be complete and to find out the truth of what happened in this case.
