A video released this week showed the horrifying moment a 6-year-old girl escaped from an attempted kidnapping in Ohio as a man attempted to snatch her right in front of her home.
Security footage taken from the security camera on the Nash’s family home in Hamilton, Ohio, showed the moment when the six-year-old was taking out the trash. A man approached her and grabbed her by the arm.
The security footage showed suspect Deric McPherson, 33, grabbing the girl by the arm and then trying to drag her away.
As seen in the video, he attempted to grab her several times when the brave and smart little girl pulled back and let out a piercing scream.
Immediately after escaping the man, Ken’Adi ran back into her family’s house telling her dad, who jumped into his car to follow the man while he called the police.
Ken’Adi told Good Morning America, “This guy walked by and he touched me and pulled me. He just let go of me because I screamed.”
Ricky Nash said, “I chased him like he still had my kid. Definitely didn’t want him to be able to go snatch another kid.”
Police arrested 33-year-old Deric McPherson. McPherson has been charged with abduction and gross sexual imposition, according to police records.
Ricky Nash said, “When the cops put him in handcuffs, it took so much anguish away.”
Ken’Adi’s mother, Mandie Nash said, “It’s forever etched in our minds — that scream. So it’ll always be with us.” She went on to say, “I’m so proud of her. So proud of her, because as soon as she screamed, he let go. So obviously, you know, it does work.”
33-year-old McPherson is being held at the Butler County Jail. A court date does not appear to have been set yet.
