Tim Allen Speaks Out About The ‘Lightyear’ Movie & He Has A LOT To Say, ‘The Short Answer Is…

Actor Tim Allen who is the original voice of the Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear has decided to open up about Disney/Pixar’s new movie based on the character.

“The short answer is I’ve stayed out of this ’cause it has nothing to do [with my Buzz Lightyear],” Allen told Extra.

Disney replaced Allen’s voice with actor Chris Evans but, the Home Improvement actor pointed out that he was voicing a toy and Evans was an (animated) human being.

“It’s a wonderful story,” Allen said of Lightyear. “It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy, and it’s a little…I don’t know. It just has no relationship to Buzz. It’s just no connection. I wish there was a better connection.”

Allen said that he was asked about the film years ago but the Pixar team behind Toy Story has moved and eluded that the “whole new team” isn’t on par with their predecessors.

“We talked about this many years ago. It came up in one of the sessions. I said, ‘What a fun movie that would be.’

“But the brass that did the first four movies,” he said likely in reference to departed Pixar chief John Lasseter, “this is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies.”

Allen added that what made the Toy Story films great was the relationship between Tom Hank’s character Woody and Buzz calling them “buddy films.

“It’s Hanks and I. There’s really no Toy Story’s Buzz without Woody.

Tim Allen is about to debut on Disney+ in an upcoming limited series of the classic “The Santa Claus.” Allen’s own daughter Elizabeth Allen-Dick will play his on-screen daughter.

According to Jack Burditt, creator of the new series Scott Calvin (Allen) is getting too old to be Santa and his family is struggling with the isolation at the North Pole. The series will focus on Calvin finding a “suitable replacement.”
