The incident unfolded after a car hit a motorcycle in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, knocking a man and woman off of the bike. The woman on the back of the motorcycle flipped over the front and appeared to be unharmed. The man was pinned underneath the vehicle.
After an unsuccessful attempt to free the man, more than a dozen people lifted the car and pulled the man out from underneath.
Video footage of the incident shows people and police immediately flocking around the car as the quick-thinking heroes evaluated what to do to help the trapped individual.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department released a May 31 statement on Facebook thanking the good Samaritans who came to their aid to help the trapped man.
“THANK YOU to the officers and on-lookers who swiftly responded to a motorcyclist trapped under a vehicle from a collision on Ocean Boulevard on Saturday afternoon,” the statement read. “As seen in the video, officers and on-lookers lifted the car to release the person and get him to safety.”
The police went on to say, “We are lucky to live and work in a community where everyone is ready to work together to help others,”
As evidenced in the video footage of the rescue, the citizens and police officers are fortunate to live and serve in a community where others are willing to help and take care of each other.
Amazingly, the trapped man and other motorcycle passenger were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. If not for the heroic actions of those around at the time, the situation could have ended very differently.
The driver of the car was arrested and reportedly had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.
No matter where you’re from or what you believe in, it is a good reminder that there is more that unites us than there is to divide us. This video is an example that there are still good people out there, ready to jump into action when they see someone in need.
