A “Golden Girls” pop-up restaurant is opening in New York City this week, allowing fans of the ‘80s sitcom to experience a day in the life of Sophia, Blanche, Rose and Dorothy.
The Golden Girls Kitchen had its opening day on Dec. 7 in Manhattan. The retro-themed restaurant will serve classic meals inspired by the show, which will include Sophia’s lasagna al Forno, a Rusty Anchor omelet sandwich, Rose Nylund’s Genurkenflurgen cake, and, you can’t have a Golden Girls restaurant without cheesecake. “Golden Girls”-themed cocktails and mocktails will also be served at the Rusty Anchor Bar.
The restaurant will feature the 1980’s decor from the show in all its Miami glory. You’ll feel the nostalgia as sit among the wood-paneled kitchen, shag carpeting, an airy lanai, and plenty of banana leaf floral prints.
If you can’t make it to New York, fans will be able to enjoy the experience at the already-established Beverly Hills, California location with additional locations in the Miami, San Francisco, and Chicago areas being announced soon, according to the organizer, Bucket Listers.
The pop-up was a huge success when it opened earlier in California, with some extreme fans actually giving marriage proposals in the restaurant, Derek Berry, head of experiences with Bucket Listers, told TODAY.
“I think it was opening day, we had multiple groups come in and just cry,” Berry said.
According to Today,
Tickets for the New York experience start at $40 per person, according to the pop-up’s website. Tickets include a 90-minute reservation slot, a main entrée and slice of cheesecake, as well as plenty of photo ops and interactive experiences.
“It’s all five senses being hit for the ‘Golden Girls,’” Berry explained. “You know, eat it, smell it, hear it, you can taste it.”
