Fixer Upper Star Joanna Gaines Forced to Take Time Out of Her Busy Schedule for Surgery

This holiday season, Joanna Gaines is sending an important reminder about the importance of self-care.

The former Fixer Upper star recently underwent a microdiscectomy, a surgical procedure to treat a back injury she sustained from cheerleading in high school. Gaines shared a photo of her post-surgery on Instagram, saying that she was “stressed bc of the timing of it all with the holiday season.”

However, rather than see the surgery as an inconvenience, Gaines has embraced the opportunity to slow down and take some time for herself. She shared that she was grateful for the “forced rest” that the procedure had provided her during the holiday season, and reminded her followers to “find the beauty and embrace the wonder of the here and now.”

In an Instagram post, Gaines can be seen looking cool in her hospital bed while wearing sunglasses. She captioned the post by saying,

“I hurt my back in high school from cheerleading- basically a basket toss turned back injury and I’ve been dealing with it ever since.

I had my first microdisectomy in 2001 and had to cancel my second date with Chip Carter Gaines and then had the same procedure on another disc two weeks ago. I’ve always joked that my back likes to act up at the most inconvenient times and I was a bit stressed bc of the timing of it all with the holiday season.

But I’m truly grateful for the forced rest during the busiest time of the year. It has been a gift to simply stay put, stare at the wonder all around, and just be still.

Wishing you and yours a beautiful Christmas week. It may not all go as planned- but may you find the beauty and embrace the wonder of the here and now. ✨”

Gaines’ message serves as an important reminder for us all. The holiday season can often be a time of stress and expectations to be perfect. We’re expected to make it the most wonderful time of the year, while also taking care of our families, managing our jobs, and attending all of the holiday parties. But in our rush to do it all, we often forget to take care of ourselves.

Gaines’ post can remind us to pause, take a breath, and remember that self-care is an important part of our overall health and well-being. It can help us refocus on the things that really matter and be present in the moment.

So, this holiday season, take a page out of Joanna Gaines’ book and take some time for yourself. Whether it’s curling up with a good book, spending time with friends, or just taking a few moments to be still, make sure you’re taking time for yourself and your own needs. Your future self will thank you for it.
