DreamWorks fans, get ready for a fairy-tale adventure this Halloween as Donkey, the lovable sidekick from the animated classic Shrek, opens the doors to Shrek’s Swamp on Airbnb. For an exclusive two-night stay from October 27-29, 2023, guests can experience the charm of the ogre’s humble abode nestled in the hills of the Scottish Highlands.
The moss-covered oasis features a studio layout in a live-in tree stump with two beds and one bathroom, providing a cozy and secluded spot to enjoy the brisk autumn days and starry nights just like a true ogre. Despite warning signs like “Danger” and “Beware Ogre,” guests are welcome to consider it Shrek’s unique way of inviting them home.
Donkey, the house-sitter, expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m absolutely delighted to invite you in for a fairytale stay.” During their time in the Swamp, guests will have the chance to stay up late, swap stories, and indulge in an ogre-style breakfast, as Donkey promises to make waffles in the morning.
In true ogre fashion, the toilet, sink, and shower facilities are located off-site, approximately 20 meters away from Shrek’s Swamp. However, this inconvenience is a small price to pay for the opportunity to experience this muddy slice of paradise.
This unique experience isn’t a contest; any Shrek fan can stay for £0 a night, a nod to the priceless refuge Shrek has provided to fairytale creatures. Interested guests need an active Airbnb profile with a good track record, a government-issued ID, and must be at least 5 years old, among other terms and conditions. Travel to and from Scotland is the responsibility of the guests.
To honor the lasting memories of childhood, Airbnb will make a one-time donation to HopScotch Children’s Charity, supporting Scotland’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children with respite breaks.
