Comedian Richard Lewis Passes Away AT 76

Legendary stand-up comedian and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star Richard Lewis has died at the age of 76 after suffering a heart attack. The news was confirmed by Variety magazine, shortly after superstar actress Bette Midler shared the news on her social media, writing, “On a sad note, the great Richard Lewis has died.”

According to Lewis’ rep Jeff Abraham, the comedian passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles, with his wife Joyce Lapinsky by his side. Lapinsky thanked everyone for their love, friendship, and support, and has asked for privacy during this difficult time.

HBO, the network that aired “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” also released a statement expressing their condolences, calling Lewis a “cherished member” of their family.

Lewis’ death comes just months after the comedian announced his retirement from stand-up comedy.

In April, he revealed that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and felt it was important to update his fans about his condition, saying, “I just wanted to let you know that’s where it’s been at.” Despite the diagnosis, Lewis remained positive and said he was “cool” and under a doctor’s care.

The comedian originally rose to fame in the 1980s as a stand-up comedian, known for his dark and self-deprecating humor.

He gained even more recognition for his role in the sitcom “Anything but Love” and for his role in the hit comedy “Robin Hood: Men in Tights.” However, his most iconic role was playing a fictionalized version of himself on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

In his retirement announcement video, Lewis also expressed his love for his wife, puppy dog, friends, and fans, showing just how much he cared for those around him. The comedian did not have any children.

Fans and fellow comedians have been sharing their condolences and memories of Lewis online, with many expressing their sadness at the loss of such a talented and funny individual. Lewis will always be remembered for his wit, comedic brilliance, and talent, which were unmatched.

His legacy will live on through his work and the memories of those who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed by the entertainment industry and his many fans.
