‘Hunger Games’ Vibes At The 2023 Met Gala: Not Sure Wether To Laugh or Cry!

As a fashion enthusiast, I always look forward to the first Monday in May, which is when the biggest fashion event of the year, the Met Gala, takes place. This year, the gala is honoring the late fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld, with the dress code simply reading “In honor of Karl.” This has left many celebrities and their stylists to interpret the dress code in their own unique way, and there were definitely some memorable looks on the red carpet.

Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, hopes guests will celebrate “the spirit of Karl,” with many expected to don vintage Chanel, Fendi, and Chloé. Karl Lagerfeld was known for his relentless drive to move forward, making him a prolific designer. He never regarded himself as an artist but rather as a designer for hire, always seeking to push the boundaries of fashion.

Vogue’s Anna Wintour will lead the event alongside co-chairs Michaela Coel, Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer, and Dua Lipa. The tandem exhibition, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, which opens on May 5th at the museum, will celebrate the late designer’s career, creative process, and unique working methodology.

Doja Cat was, as the name implies, a cat. Doja dressed in feline facial prosthetics and wore an Oscar de la Renta dress complete with cat ears. What’s crazier is that when interviewed, Doja only answered in… “meows.”

Jared Leto was cosplaying as Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette.

Lil Nas X…well, there are no words.

Janelle Monae dressed in a sculptural black-and-white Thom Browne tuxedo suit which was then taken off her to reveal a skin-bearing cage crinoline.

Some loved the Met Gala outfits, and others not so much.  One Twitter user posted:
