Actor Alec Baldwin is facing possible charges for the killing of Halyna Hutchins, 42, who was a cinematographer for a movie called ‘Rust’ that was being filmed.
Hutchins was shot and killed by a bullet from a prop gun on Oct. 21 while on set at Bonanza Creek Ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico. Though Baldwin was holding the prop gun when it fired, he initially told authorities that he never pulled the trigger.
The Hutchins family filed a lawsuit against Baldwin and others involved with the film. Baldwin has denied accusations that the set was unsafe.
Prosecutors made headlines after Santa Fe authorities agreed to provide funds that will allow the prosecution to investigate further the shooting.
The New Mexico state Board of Finance granted $317,000. This was granted after an emergency request from First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies. This money will fund a special prosecutor, a special investigator, and others.
Carmack-Altwies revealed that the charges brought by the prosecution include a wide range of charges from homicide to violations of the state’s gun statutes.
Baldwin was holding the gun when he claimed it accidentally fired killing Hutchins and injuring Joes Souza, the director.
Baldwin continues to state that he never pulled the trigger. However, a recent FBI forensic report stated that the gun could not have fired a bullet unless the trigger had been pulled.
